shadow in the warp

this blog details my struggles to ensure hive fleet lamia don't starve, wander out of synapse range, or get lost in the warp. or trodden on, chewed by dog, or stuck in a cupboard whilst unbuilt and forgotten about.

it's not easy being a norn queen. it's harder being one of my bugs.

here's my first test model:

here's how he looks from the back:

i've updated the scheme since i painted him last night. (trans. i woke up this morning, and changed my mind.) i had left the flesh bits as just elf flesh, but a wash of leviathan purple over them makes them stand out a bit more for tabletop purposes. also, the cables for the gun have been changed from elf flesh to ice blue with an asurmen blue wash for a pop of colour. i had tried camo green first, but it doesn't really give the contrast i was after.

i was aiming for a dusty, muted, natural scheme for them. unfortunately my enthusiasm for the devlan mud wash has made him look more like "hive fleet: sleeping rough". he's had a bit more highlighting since then and i've rethought about the order in which i'm layering the wash.

also? i suck at painting. this makes me sad.
